About eTIPs

eTIPs is an online, menu-based, interactive programme which uses a multimedia format including text, videos, audio clips and graphics. This means people can choose the order in which they interact with the programme and work through it in the privacy of their own home.

It has some reading involved but it is not like a text book about living with psoriasis, so people who find it difficult to read large amounts of information should find eTIPs easier to use.

The programme uses the principles of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), a popular form of psychological therapy which focuses on helping individuals to understand that the way they think about a situation can affect the way they feel and act.

CBT requires patients to practise thinking-type exercises designed to help them understand their personal patterns in order to improve psychological wellbeing and to give ideas on how to manage their psoriasis better. The programme starts with an introduction to the different types of psoriasis and treatments available, CBT and how the eTIPs programme is set out.

You then work through a further five sections which target psychological aspects that people have told us are important to living with psoriasis:
self-esteem
thinking styles
low mood and depression
stress and tension
and coping

The eTIPs research and programme development was solely funded by PAPAA.
